Fishing Report: Two keeper ling cod at once and unexpected Salmon

Getting excited to pursue salmon, but given local conditions, and slow reports from the coast, decided to bottom fish on Sunday, June 3, 2018.  Went with two friends, Jeff and Brian.  Launched from Garibaldi and began fishing about 7:00 a.m.  I have heard of salmon being caught while bottom fishing but never witnessed it.  Well, about 10 seconds into fishing, Jeff has a fish on, a beautiful Chinook, took a jig on his first drop!  Did not see that coming!  We had to move around to find our lings, but toward the end of the trip we found a mess of them.  So many that I had a first, two keeper ling cod at once.  They were either really hungry, being real competitive, or both, lol.  We ended the day with six lings, fifteen bottom fish, and one Chinook.  Did not drop crab pots since last time we did we only managed five keepers for three pots.

All depth halibut is right around the corner, for the central coast sub area,, make sure you know the regulations for retaining other species while halibut fishing/or have a halibut on board.  It is also free fishing weekend in Washington June 9 and 10, 2018, hoping to pursue one of these options next weekend.
