Fishing Report: Garibaldi Saturday Jul 8th, not as calm as the forecast

Went to Garibaldi Saturday morning, met my friend Brian and his son at 5:30 a.m.  The ocean was forecast to be calm, it was not.  Wind chop and swells made for a long ride to Three Arches.  We dropped three pots on the way.  Early in the day, the youngest passenger found out what sea sickness was.  He was a trooper, did not say anything, despite being ill over side of the boat, good job there.  We decided it was best to head back, this was about 8:30 a.m.  Dropped off our passenger and headed back to Three Arches, no action.  By this time the ocean had laid down, so we decided to run to Pacific City Area.  We managed four rockfish, and one ling cod, lost a few other fish.  Picked up the pots, 16 crab and got back to the dock about 4:00 p.m.

On this day none of the fish wanted the home-made copper pipe jigs. I had to change my strategy and offering.  I used 12-16oz jig heads with lime green curly tails, that seemed to entice a few more bites. At Fisherman's Marine and outdoor sale, I purchased a Berkley IM8 7' 9" extra heavy rod for under $60.  The rod appeared to work as well as my more expensive Shimano rod.
