Fishing Report: Early morning and ling cod...Black Rockfish hard to find.

I love this time of year, when the weather and ocean conditions cooperate.  Due to the very high water on the Columbia and Willamette, made a decision to go bottom fishing Sunday, May 27, 2018 out of Garibaldi.  The only drawback to this time of year is it is light out very early.  So, if you want to be fishing around first light, you have to get out of bed early.  Got up at 3:00 a.m. to depart at 4:00 a.m., went with Todd and Mark.  We dropped three crab pots around Twin Rocks and went fishing.  We got our six ling cod in fairly short order, and released a few orange fish and small lings.  Weird thing is, never caught even one black rockfish.  The ling were good sized, so we decided to pull our pots.  I have heard reports of crabbing improving, but we only managed five keepers for our three pots.  Granted, we pulled them about 10:00 a.m., we were done fishing early, so only soaked for a few hours.  Had Kelly the Blade fillet the fish, and made it back to Portland early, to enjoy an early afternoon nap.  I love bottom fishing but am quite excited for some salmon action, hopefully in the near future.
