Fishing Report: Fishing for Shad with Chad and Rylan

Went shad fishing in Oregon City with Chad and his son Rylan Saturday May 26, 2019. There were plenty of shad to be had, we had best success with 1/32 ounce jig heads with small chartreuse grubs. Dick nite spoons in nickel and chartreuse also did well. With the 2 rod endorsements we had five rods fishing, mostly. At times we had doubles and triples. It was a ton of fun, and Rylan got to enjoy reeling in most of the fish. Then he took a turn at driving my 20’ Weldcraft. Great day, people fishing around us on this day were courteous. Ended up with 50 or so shad. I took about half to freeze as crab bait, Chad took the rest to try canning. I am curious to see what results that produces.

This is a great fishery to get people into some great action, although you do need to be mindful of other boats, the current, and where and how you deploy and retrieve your anchor line, making sure not to get caught in other anglers gear.
