Fishing Report: Hagg Lake Jun 6th

My favorite place to fish is definitely the ocean, and I have a group of friends that I usually fish with. I must admit, however, that having the time and ability to take others fishing who are new to the sport, or with limited experience is a blast! I took our friends and their two adorable children, two and four out to Hagg Lake. We only caught two trout, about 17” and 18”, but fun was had by all. I answered a lot of questions from and eager to fish 4 1/2 year old.

The trout were both caught on the same lure, a small minnow type lure, like a rapala. I put it about five feet behind an 1 and 1/4 ounce keel sinker and set it back about 80’. The water at the surface was warm, just over 69 degrees, according to my fish finder. I should have put keel sinkers on all the rods. But when we finished reeling in the second fish, it was time to call it a day, young anglers need to nap, lol. If we had continued fishing, I believe getting the lures down with the sinkers would have produced more trout. The day was not about maximizing the take, but rather to relax and share the beauty of Scoggins Valley Park, Hagg Lake and the tremendous amount of fun that can be had trying to entice a fish to strike.
