Finally, very nice ocean conditions forecast. Fished Saturday with Todd in his Arima, we caught our four hatchery coho, in about 300’ off of Twin Rocks. Fish still somewhat scattered, had to move around to find some biters. Repeated the same process Sunday with the same results. Sunday the first three fish we caught in less than an hour, and they were all hatchery fish. Then luck ran dry, we hooked and released a few natives, before getting our fourth hatchery fish.
On Saturday after salmon fishing we went up to Cannon Beach for bottom fish. No success. Did not even mark any fish on the fish finder, for whatever reason, the reef was empty. On Sunday, we went south to Three Arches, where we marked tons of fish, but could not get any to bite. I think that there is a lot of bait fish in the water right now, which is good for the fishing, but can be bad for catching. Best bites for salmon were first thing in the morning, then it died off quickly. I heard that people who went to Three Arches and Cannon Beach did pretty well bottom fishing, early in the morning.
On Monday, went long leader fishing with Randy in his North River, about 18 miles west off Garibaldi. We caught our limits of fish, 10 each. We had dropped four crab pots, and were surprised, we had at least four dozen keepers, we each kept our 12 and sent the rest home. We dropped the pots a little north of Twin Rocks, which appears to be crabbing better than to the south.
