May 06th Garibaldi bottom fish

Finally, a break in the weather, and a very calm ocean. Left Garibaldi docks at 5:45 a.m., with my friends Randy and Scott. We had our 12 sea bass by 6:40 a.m. Sometimes you get lucky and find a good school, and with no wind, are able to stay right on top of them.

It was about 130’ deep, and we were using 5 ounce flutter jigs and shrimp flies, both caught fish. A lot of squid, shrimp, and small fish of some sort in all the fish we caught. Appears plenty of food, and choices on the menu.

No ling cod, I hear they have moved out to deeper water, post spawn. Also, I hear that the spring chinook fishermen are having a major problem, “trying to get through all the 3 to 5 pound coho to get to the chinook”. It appears that we may be in for a stellar year for coho, which opens June 06th in the Cape Falcon to OR/CA Border this year.
